Basically, there are three types of sports: physical activity, sport and recreation. Physical activities can be a form of entertainment such as running or swimming; an individual's choice to take part in an organised sporting activity like soccer or cricket; and participation in group activity which can be either amateur or professional. For example, football was developed originally to stimulate athletes to compete at local grounds; Rugby was created with the intention of promoting domestic interest rather than national competition; and Cricket was designed for the enjoyment of players as well as spectators. The National Society Sports defines game to be "any activity involving physical movement in which an active player or team competes against another player, team, competition or event."
